Which country or state has had the most capitals?
Which country or state, anywhere in the world, which has had the most capitals (let’s start at 1 AD, to keep it real.)
Someone had asked about US state capitals, it turned out
California had 5
17th c.-1777 :Loreto (southern Calif.)
1777-1849: Monterey
1849-1851: San Jose
1851-1853: Vallejo
1853 Benicia
1854-: Sacramento
and Texas has had enough capitals to give you a nosebleed, does anyone know what is the official count?:
(various colonial and administrative capitals)
1772-1824: San Antonio
Republic of Texas:
-1836: San Felipe de Austin
1836: Washington-on-the-Brazos, Harrisburg, Galveston Island, Velasco, Columbia
1837: Houston
1839: Austin
So, the challenge seems to be to find a country or state which has had >10 capitals. Probably going to depend on political definitions.
